Nakayama suita

€900.00

192 × 72 × 30 mm

Sides and bottom sealed with transparent lacquer.
The olive-wood base is hand-lacquered with glossy Japanese urushi.

If you're looking for a very clean, contrasty kasumi — semi-mirror core, bright clad — and a hypnotic feeling in use, this is the one.

A visually striking pink and beige stone from Nakayama. Hard and dense as a body, yet soft in use: it releases slurry readily and never burnishes the clad, which is where the contrast comes from. It rarely needs flattening, so you can work the geometry precisely, and it will outlast whoever owns it.
KREAM Detail or fine finger stones can follow directly, but you'll be impressed by the finish from this suita alone.

Notes from use — Black slurry after a couple of strokes. Dense and extremely smooth under the blade; let it slide with very light pressure (relax your thumb on the handle). It needs little water; when you want more slurry, flatten it with your coarsest diamond plate under firm pressure.

Edge — mirror on core measured at 2.67 / 5:

great performance on the finest edges — ura, special food cutting, fine tools, razors — and the base for a very high-contrast kasumi polish.
