Nakayama kiita

167 × 60 × 28 mm · on wooden base

The stone and the olive-wood base are hand-lacquered with Japanese urushi.

Iron clad and wrought iron are where it shines. The contrast was strong in tone and texture: The haze was perfectly even and very bright on the iron clad and the core on White #1, Blue #2 and 125 sc steels turned to a semi-mirror core.
I used it a lot on tamahagane lately and it works on honyaki, but I'd keep it for clad: a large hard-steel surface needs a stone that breaks the light, and this one is finer than that.

Notes from use — The slurry arrives very quick. The feel is soft and creamy.

The shop is a sample of what I keep. If the finish you want isn't listed — a different size, a different character, something between two swatches — tell me your blade and your budget. There's no finish in this space I can't reach: I'll match it, or I'll make it.

Nothing quite right? I'll check my drawers.
